Exploring Portland Bill

B-Side

Project funded by Natural England and the Heritage Lottery Funding.

Designed as souvenir poster for @bsidefestival, an event showcasing this Portland island’s history, geology and landscape.

The project explored the flora and fauna that you could expect to see during the summer months on Portland Bill. Reference was made to local wildlife groups’ sitings.

Chalkhill Blue is interesting for it’s co-dependence upon the Yellow Meadow Ant whose large mounds are a feature of old grasslands. . . The ants benefit by ‘farming’ the larvae of the Chalkhill Blue, milking them fo their honey-dew, and the larvae get well looked after before becoming the next generation.
